A narcissist is unable to understand the consequences of his or her actions which leads them to invalidate their own toxicity, thinking that it never happened, and if it did, your version of events is definitely wrong.
They then tell their enablers a doctored version of events (or a flat-out lie) to which the enablers will give confirmation that you are the problem here.
The invalidation of what is true, followed by the agitated criticisms of more than one person that you are the one who is wrong, crazy, or toxic has the effect of turning your mind inside out.
Because surely more than one person can’t be wrong… right?
They wouldn’t all just gang up on you for no reason, and not all of them would lie… right?
The brain is logical, and so it’s trusting what it sees. But in truth, these people are behaving in a way which is contrary to reality.
