Emotional control comes from the recognition of what they are; your feelings are like leaves on the lake. You can see evidence of them, feel them and learn from them, but they are not part of the lake. They are only a fleeting, visiting thing.

Emotion

Our feelings are like this, and in that regard they are an external fleeting element that is not part of our being.

They sometimes warn us, or arise out of instinctual habit or self-preservation. For this reason, we should learn from them, but never let them define us or accept their value as critical thought.

Such is the fleeting nature of emotions; we must recognise that their changeable nature means that we should never let them govern our reality since what is in our world is the only true constant that we experience.

Focus

When you are around negative or turbulent people, you need to focus on ‘the mission’ not them.

What is your goal today, tomorrow, for the week or the month? If you don’t have one, set one. Once you have decided upon your goals focus on them in your mind.
